The decision of the Supreme Court will not be an obstacle for Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday that Nawaz Sharif will be the next prime minister if we win the elections, ARY News reported.
Talking to senior media representatives, the Prime Minister said that Nawaz Sharif has completed his five-year period of disqualification.
Shahbaz Sharif said that the decision of the Supreme Court will not be an obstacle for him.
He was referring to the Supreme Court's judgment on Friday, in which it struck down the Supreme Court (Review of Judgments and Orders) Act, 2023.
A three-judge bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Bandyal delivered a reserved judgment on the petitions challenging the Supreme Court (Review of Judgments and Orders) Act, 2023.
The Supreme Court had reserved its verdict on June 19 after the arguments of the parties were completed in six hearings.
Shahbaz Sharif said that we saved the state by putting our politics at stake.
Shahbaz Sharif said that after the amendment of the election law, the disqualification period has become five years. He said that Nawaz Sharif will be our candidate.
He said that the consultation with the opposition for caretaker prime minister will be held today. The Prime Minister said that if I and the opposition leader fail to reach a common ground, then the forums of the Parliamentary Committee and the Election Commission are there to take a decision.
He said that it is the responsibility of the Election Commission to hold elections after the new census.
We have past results before use, the country has suffered a lot. Where are we and where are our neighbors after 75 years,” he questioned.
He said that the CCI has decided to conduct the vote on the basis of the new census.
He further said that the election commission should conduct the election and not us or the interim government.
