What is Starlink Support?
Earlier Apple's satellite communication system was run through Globalstar service. But now Apple has supported Starlink in collaboration with SpaceX and T-Mobile. This is a major change because Starlink's system works directly from the user's pocket, that is, now you will not need to point the phone towards the sky. This system connects directly to the satellite and gives the option of messaging even in emergency or no-signal areas.
On which phones is this feature available?
For now it is only available in iPhone 14 and newer models. Apple has said that in future it will be expanded to other iPhones and Androids as well. Although it is in beta phase right now, it will see more improvements as upcoming updates will be made.
Future Plans
Apple has promulgated this one as the only application which is recurring the built-in messaging facility and the function of calling, both voice and data, which will, in return, give the users the ability to make calls and get onto the internet even when there is no cellular signal.
Why is this feature important?
If you are in a remote area where signals are not available, or you are traveling or hiking, then this feature can be a life-saving option. Earlier only emergency SOS messaging was available, but now Apple has also given the option of regular messaging by supporting Starlink.
Conclusion
The iOS 18.3 update by Apple is a significant step that'll transform smartphone communication for good. iPhones with the support of Starlink will now become capable of transmitting messages without cellular signals, and in the future, there will also be the option of data and calls.
