Soul and Brain Relationship

Who really has feelings: the Soul or the Brain?

The Body and Senses :

Our body has five senses: sight (eyes), hearing (ears), smell (nose), taste (tongue), and touch (skin).  These senses are like tools that collect information from the world around us.  Eyes see light; ears hear sounds; skin feels touch.  The Jobs of the Brain: Like a supercomputer, the brain puts all this information together.  Without the brain, the body can't understand what the senses pick up.  Even if their eyes or skin look fine, brain damage can affect how well they see or feel.

The Mystery of Being Aware :

Even though the brain processes information, science still can't fully explain why we are conscious.  Even though it doesn't know what it's doing, a computer can work with pictures and sounds.  Humans are aware of their feelings: we feel love, pain, fear, and happiness, and we know that we are alive.

Different Perspectives :

Science/Materialism:

Consciousness comes only from the brain.  You become unaware when your brain stops working.

Spiritual/Religious:

The only tools we have are our body and mind.  The spirit or soul inside you is the real "you. " After you die, your soul continues to feel, think, and live on.

Philosophy:

Some people believe that the mind is too mysterious to be fully explained just by how the brain works.  There might be a deeper part of you beyond your physical body.

Basic Comparison:

Think of the soul as the driver, the brain as the engine and controls, and the body as the car.  The car needs a person to drive it; it can't go on its own. The body and brain can't feel things by themselves; it's the soul or awareness that really experiences life..

 Here’s a simple conclusion:

The body can sense things, the brain understands them, but it’s the soul, or our awareness, that truly feels and experiences life.
